After some research, I settled on encapsulated butyrate for the active ingredient in his treatment. I found this company. Dr. Gill is incredibly helpful and kind. This product shipped quickly (Free Shipping) and I started treatment right away. Not to say results on my pony gelding are typical, if you know FWS, its idiosyncratic. But my horse stopped staining at 10 days on the Microbiome product containing butyrate. I observe his inflammation is reduced and his work ethic and mood are terrific! This was a great find for my boy and me! By way of an update, my pony continues to be clean all through winter. I have added the Metabolic Support after he was diagnosed with EMS - he has relaxed and I am no longer I observing the symptoms I saw in him previously. It took about a week before I saw amazing results. He had FWS since 2019. He had scalding on his butt from the wet poop not to mention the constant dirty tail and mush on the ground. His poop is now better formed with the occasional bit stuck to his tail (not much). I give him two separate doses. First in moistened alfalfa pellets in the am and second dose sprinkled on his daily supplements later. I also stopped giving him stemmy hay. He gets orchard grass and hay pellets either alfalfa or Timothy/alfalfa. No grain. The happy horse is Raven, the black one! I’m happy too!
