Equine Nutrition Supplements

Our latest  innovation in nutrient targeted therapy for equine athletes. MicroBiome  Support™  for the hindgut is a proprietary micro-encapsulated slow release formulation that provides a nutrient, Sodium Butyrate, naturally produced by the horse in the hindgut through microbial fermentation of fiber. However, this nutrient is not present in high enough concentrations in the hindgut in horses in heavy training, horses that have digestive dysfunction, or are enduring high levels of stress in their daily routine. MicroBiome  Support™ for the hindgut is highly recommended for horses off feed, those being treated with antibiotics and to help prevent hindgut dysfunction in heavily stressed horses.

Sodium Butyrate

Butyrate is a short chain fatty acid naturally derived from fiber fermentation in the intestine of the horse. However, like glutamine, during times of stress adding additional butyrate to the diet can help to maintain a healthy intestinal lining. Supplemental Sodium Butyrate has been shown to help prevent, inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis and diarrhea. It is also beneficial in the following areas:

  • Stimulate digestive enzyme production
  • Enhance development of intestinal villi increasing surface area which improves feed utilization
  • Reduce acute inflammatory response of the gut lining
  • Serve as major energy source for colon cells
  • Improve insulin sensitivity
  • Inhibit cancer cell growth and the secretion of host defense peptides
  • Affect and prevent the colonization of Salmonella and Campylobacter
  • Positively influence the composition of the gut microbiota

Feeding Directions:

Feed one teaspoon twice daily in feed.  Can be dosed orally in oil if needed.

2 pounds  is 60 day supply for 1000 pound horse.

i am re ordering this supplement for my 29 year old horse. he gets diarrhea when he eats hay. because he is thin, it is hard to keep weight on him, especially since he won’t eat chopped hay or hay cubes.i’ve tried a number of products without effect. i started him on this supplement and was gradually able to add more and more hay into his diet without his getting diarrhea.

Barbara – that is awesome news! We consistently hear reports such as your regarding the effectiveness of MicroBiome Support in helping to alleviate hind gut dysfunction. Butyric acid is naturally produced in the hind gut by microbial fermentation, but many factors can cause the hind gut to dysfunction. Adding more Butyric acid through dietary means becomes necessary with various problems such as colic, enteritis, colitis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Leaky Gut syndrome and general mal-absorption of water and nutrients. Let us know if you need any further help with the weight issues. We have some other Targeted Nutrient therapies that may be of assistance.

I started my horse on MicroBiome Support in October 2019. He’s a 13 y/o OTTB that has struggled with hindgut issues for years. I have tried just about every pre and probiotic out there with little success. This is the first product that has helped. Finally, his manure is not loose and the swelling in his belly has improved tremendously. I’m so pleased with how he has responded to Micro Biome. I recommend this product to anyone who has a horse with gut issues. It has made all the difference for my boy.
